Dan's background as a CPA auditor provided unique insight into the routine cybersecurity practices of professional service firms. He is passionate about educating CPAs to be proactive with regard to security; a passion that ultimately led to him co-founding SAVIO Information Security.
In addition to his role at SAVIO, Dan is a co-founder of Goff Backa Alfera & Company, LLC, where has has served as the firm's Quality Control partner. Dan also is a frequent lecturer on numerous management and technical audit topics and provides management consulting services to clients in a variety of industries, including other CPA firms.
Dan is an alumnus of two international accounting firms and attended the National Banking School at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia, an intensive, detailed training class related to various banking related topics. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, with an emphasis in accounting and management, from Duquesne University.
Dan is an active member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. In the past, Dan was Chair of the PICPA Peer Review Committee, served on the PICPA’s Management of an Accounting Practice Committee and the PICPA’s Committee on Ethics.
He is co-founder of SAVIO Information Security as well as president of the software consulting firm Eris Interactive Group. He has two decades of experience working with Linux and FLOSS in both business and technical roles and has an extensive technical background in operating systems and security, and holds an OSCP certification.
Mike also holds a part-time faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Computing and Information, where he teaches and has developed cybersecurity coursework. He has had the opportunity to teach offensive cybersecurity tactics to students from some of the largest organizations in and around the Pittsburgh area.
As president of Eris Interactive Group, Mike has architected, launched, hosted, and maintained dozens of software products for companies across many industries. Since founding in 2011, he has grown revenue, profit, and client base, and has expanded business capacity through partnerships with other development firms. Previously, he was the innovator of Kiddix, a Linux-based OS for kids with integrated parental controls.
Mike holds an MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, an MS in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated cum laude with a BS in computer science from Seton Hall University.
